This is the view from a place I like to call Morning Joint Point. It’s a little peninsula that sticks out on the north east side of the Lower Gorge Waterway. I’ve been walking there pretty much every morning (or riding dave’s bmx), and sitting in the sun while I smoke breakfast. The other morning I saw a bald eagle sitting in an arbutus tree. At first I thought, “how did someone get that turkey in that tree?” then it perked it’s head up and I realized it wasn’t a turkey. I am still hoping to meet a seal close up at some point while I’m here. Everyone says there is quite an abundance of them, but I’ve only seen one so far, and that was on Gabriola, and it was so far away it just looked like a dog in the middle of the ocean.
These little markers are all over the higher parts of the trail at gold stream. They help indicate the easiest, safest way up the rocks. As soon as I saw them I couldn’t help but think of the platforms from Mario 3 that you have to jump on to make them switch directions, and then I remembered how much of a pain in the ass that was when I was a kid playing that game for the first time.
Today Dave and I took Honey to Goldstream park, and hiked to the top of Mt. Finlayson. It was a beautiful day and it took us about an hour and a half to reach the top, then less than half that to get back down. After that we dropped Honey off at Dave’s and went to get groceries and find a Subway that had Veggie Patty subs. The Subway by Dave’s house had them the last time I was here, but yesterday I went to get one and they said they no longer carried it. We found one tonight but the guy said they are discontinuing those subs in Canada. Fuck. I don’t like a lot of fast food, but those were one thing I occasionally crave. Now I’m watching UFC with Dave and baking cookies.
I think this year will be good.
My friend Anthony showed me this video the other day. I really like the song and the video. The album on a whole gets pretty boring after a while, but I could see it being some cool game music. The one thing that confuses me slightly is that the song is called D.A.N.C.E. but there is not one person dancing in the video. It seems more like an ad for electric shirts, or neon colours from the early 90s.
I’m watching Dave’s dog Honey while he’s back in Ontario for our friends wedding. We were sitting around watching Holmes on Homes, and she started howling at police sirens. I like howling with her. She’s so cute.
Yesterday I went to ride Dave’s bike. It was my first time riding a BMX since I was a kid. The tires were almost completely flat, so I went to the gas station first to fill them up. On the way there (it’s literally less than a block away), I managed to pop the rear tire on the first curb. Bike ride postponed. When I returned to the house 2 minutes after leaving, there was a super cute and super loveable kitty on the front porch. She came back today, but Honey scared her away. I think she might belong to the people upstairs.
