I’m just about finished the entire first section of drawings for the book I’m working on. At this point the drawings are getting a lot harder, and require a lot more time and focus, but it’s still a ton of fun. I had a long conversation over the phone with the author of the book on Sunday, and I was pleased to hear that he’s loving everything I’ve done so far. We discussed a few things that I had questions about, and one thing I found that didn’t make sense to me (turned out it wasn’t just me, it really didn’t make sense), and I decided to go straight to Gabriola (after a short visit with my friends Jeff and Dawn), so he and I could work on the fine details of all the drawings together. Originally I had planned to visit my cousin Dave for about a week before making my way over to the little island, but once I start school I will have much less time to work on these drawings, so this gives us a week before I have to focus on making logs into sweet houses. We spoke again last night because I called with a few more questions, and he told me he was happy he had me to do the drawings, because I caught an oversight that someone who wasn’t as handsome and cool familiar with timber design/construction would have missed.
Although all the sketches are fun still, I’m also looking forward to being back on Gabriola, because it will force me to spend less time on the computer. Right now, I basically spend all but an hour of the time I’m awake every day on the computer. My legs are going to hate me once I’m relying on them to bike my ever fattening ass all over BC.
