Good morning bloggy! It’s windy as fuck outside right now, and it’s been raining off and on for a couple of hours. I have the windows and doors wide open, and I’m sitting in my bed nice and warm. I haven’t slept yet. I got a drawing done, and then made the image above on a break. Now I’m chatting with Holly before she takes the boys to the zoo for the day, and contemplating going to bed for a bit. I’m not tired at all, but I’m worried that if I don’t get some sleep now, I’ll be useless later today. Not to imply that what I do is very hard, but I have to keep track of lots of numbers and details, and that gets harder as I get sleepy. Even if I’m not sleepy, but I’ve been up for too long, my eyes get so dry it hurts to look at the screen.
My friend Peter invited me to a party he’s having on Valdez Island this weekend. It, like most of the parties out here, is 3 – 4 days long, depending on how much party people have left in them after day 3. It would be cool to go, but I’m not sure I’ll make it over there. Peter said just to call his cell and they’d send a boat for me, but I’m not sure that I can also get a boat ride back a few hours later (I can only spare a few hours, then I have to get back to work). I might call him tomorrow and see if that’s possible, and if so, head over there for a little while. It could be fun, as long as the weather is decent.
I’ve decided to try and nap for a little while. Hopefully I feel extra productive when I wake up.
I haven’t got much to write about – all I do is work, and that’s all very frustrating and boring. Not much exciting has happened here in the last little while. In fact the only things I can think of that are remotely note worthy are:
- an owl landed right outside my window the other night
- Zack and Dave broke James’ truck (nothing too major, but they dropped the cap off the back and dented the box)
- I came home to find a brand new box spring and mattress waiting in my loft, which I’m not allowed to use
- I made pizza pops in the toaster oven for the first time ever
- I showered
Aside from that it’s pretty much been a mix of work, and missing Holly constantly. On Monday classes start, and it’s going to get pretty different around here. James has very little time for me already, and I can only assume he’ll have even less after Monday. That could be both good and bad. It would be good if he realizes that he’s too busy, and I am basically on my own, so then he hopefully won’t have a problem with me heading back to Ontario in October. It would be bad if he is too busy for me, but insists I stay until the book is complete – I’d really like to go home (I used the H word!). I did manage to get five minutes to chat with him today about some drawings I was sort of held up on, and at the end of our conversation he told me again how much he loves every drawing I do, and he said he was pleased with how far we’ve gotten, and how little there is left. I might be a pessimist, but I see it as the worst is yet to come.
I just remembered another thing worth mentioning from the last few days… James got an advance copy of a new timber framing book that’s about to come out, and when he showed it to me all I could say was, “Oh man, your book is going to look so much nicer than this piece of shit.”, and he of course agreed. It’s insane how much better my drawings are compared to what is in this book. I’ll ask James to lend it to me so I can take a picture of how bad they are. I can honestly say if the two books were next to each other on a table, it would be like a pile of vomit sitting beside a plate of your favourite food after you’ve been starving for weeks – you wouldn’t even notice the vomit because the food looked so appealing. So ya, to sum that up: that book’s drawings = vomit, my drawings = pizza.
Speaking of my drawings, there is another up top there (as usual). It’s a Tommy gun I modeled while waiting to speak with James yesterday, and during smoke breaks with Zack. The grips were tough to make in the manor I wanted to, so I had to compromise. I don’t feel too bad about copping out, because it was just for fun and entertainment. I still really like it. I think next I’m going to make a P-90. Then perhaps a PP-7 with a silencer!
It’s 1am, and it’s time for me to have a snack and do some work. Goodnight bloggy.
If I was smarter and more talented I would turn this little doodle into the most violent video game ever.
I had no luck getting the Lego software to run on my machine, so maybe I can get a shirt made for Roan with this design on it. I’ll have to ask Holly if he’d like that.
Although they don’t show up so great in this image, I love the gatling guns, and flame throwers I added (at Roan’s request). I just wish I could drive it around and shoot things.
This morning I chatted with Holly for a moment before heading down to the yard to play cameraman, while the new log jig got erected. It went up pretty easily, and it looks awesome (aside from the colour scheme). This model has a ton of improvements from the original prototype, but I doubt all work as good as they should in theory. We won’t find out until the students go to use it next week, although I have been suggesting to James that we try it tomorrow just for fun.
After it was all setup and we shared a few celebratory smokes, I came back up here and talked to Holly until it was time for her to leave work. I made pizza, and then got to work on a drawing. I managed to get two done today, and then I finally got a chance to sit down with James and look over these elevation drawings I did for his house. First thing in the morning (second thing technically, rolling a joint is usually first thing) I will spend a few minutes getting those elevations labeled and converted, then I need to print some drawings for James (I haven’t printed him anything since a few days before I left for Ontario) and clean my room.
I think I’m going to go to bed now (or try to at least) and hopefully feel well rested in the morning.
