I didn’t end up uploading the images off my mum’s DSLR today. Instead I talked to my friend Ryan, who I hadn’t spoken with in a long time, then the Dude came by and had me help with his model. Then I got a brutal headache, took some pills, and had a nap. I woke up around 6pm, and Holly said she’d been trying to wake me for an hour or so. We went to the Mandarin for dinner (first time since they got busted for reusing uneaten food off people’s plates), then Holly passed out shortly after we got home.
I decided to do some more work on the book, since Holly brought home two faxes James sent me yesterday. One was a new drawing he had forgotten about, the other was a drawing I did which needed corrections, but a written explanation wasn’t working for me (I often need pictures). I managed to get all the work I currently had left on the book done in the last 6 hours, plus I snuck in a conversation with James. I gave him a minor progress report and told him to expect everything tomorrow in an email. I asked what he wanted to do next, and he told me to see if I can figure out In Design. Looks like that’s what I’ll spend my morning doing (after I send the email of course). He also mentioned something about paying me (hooray!).
*Bongbot did not actually shoot the timber book. This is just an old image I never used for anything, and happened to find tonight.
Fooled you.
Soon I will be able to take beautiful, crisp photos and videos once again. My camera is in serious need of repair, but I have a feeling the cobra matriarch will save the day in the not too distant future. In the meantime she’s provided me with her old Cannon DSLR. It’s large, and I have no clue how to use it properly, but it’s got a working flash and a clean lens. I’ll upload some pictures I took with it later. Now it’s time to stop blogging, eat something, whizz, and get to work.
I took one of Holly’s Xmas gift boxes, and put it on the floor in her room. I thought it would be a huge hit with the cats, but they didn’t seem to give a shit. They looked at it for a second. Smelled it. Then ignored it for the next 3 days. It’s still sitting there now, and hasn’t even been rubbed against once.
On the bright side, I did manage to snap a potentially great lolcat image. Now I just need to think of a great caption.
Every time I go to the kitchen this cat follows me. Then she follows me back to wherever I decide to eat. Then she acts cute for a moment, before stealing (or at least attempting to steal) some of whatever it is. There is no chance of me having a glass of nog to myself.
All my ladies love their eggnog – and mine.
This weekend, Holly and I were fairly productive – if you don’t consider Friday evening (when Holly slept for over 13 hours) part of the weekend. We got lots of her Xmas shopping done, cleaned the house, visited with my parents, put up Xmas lights, and even decorated the stupid tree (ok, those last two we did yesterday, but since Holly was home I consider it the weekend still).
I also managed to get a few drawings done while Holly was napping. I have 4 drawings that James wants corrected, and one he faxed yesterday he had forgotten about completely, then that should be it for that book. Now it’s up to James whether I attempt to learn how to layout a book, or move on to the second book’s illustrations. My preference would be to just work on layout for now, and wait to start the log drawings until I’m back at the ISBA with James. It is definitely easier to work through this stuff when we’re in the same place. I say that with absolutely no idea what is involved in laying out a book, or what program I will use to do so. I’m sure I can figure it out, and I’m hoping it will be somewhat interesting, or fun.
The sooner I can start making a regular paycheque the better. I hate not being able to contribute to the finances. I want to be able to spoil Holly and the boys, and give them things like Nerf guns and egg nog milkshakes. Look how happy egg nog milkshakes make her, can you blame me? She spoils me and I don’t even deserve it. I’m just incredibly lucky I guess.
Sometimes Roan comes up with stuff that makes me laugh for days. Last week sometime, I decided I should start to keep track of some of the better ones. Here are two of my favourites from last week:
1) Provetion – This is any evidence which helps give proof of something. (example: “You know what the provetion of Tabbouleh not being scared of me anymore is? – She doesn’t hide under the bed when I come up the stairs now!”)
2) Some months have 32 days. This was discovered while counting down the days to xmas. I’m guessing he either got confused, or he’s a master of javascript and was just thinking in code.
I just woke up at 4:20am and I’m sitting in bed next to Holly, listening to metal and being bored. My back is still killing me, and I can’t get back to sleep.
I spent 20 minutes petting Tabbouleh after I went down to use the bathroom. Apparently she’s pretty lovable in the early morning hours. I took another video of her stealing stuff yesterday (eggnog), but I think it might have been too dark. I’ll upload it later and see.
I need a new camera, and just the other day my mum offered me her old DSLR. I’d take it, but it’s just too big for me. I need one I can have on me at all times, like the one I have now. I think I’d prefer one with at least 640×480 video too. I suggested that if she had no other use for it, she let me trade it in at Henry’s, and try to get a decent new one for me. I did some searching online last night and found a decent deal on Futureshop.ca. I think I might just buy it on my credit card. I miss tons of good kitty photo opportunities because of my camera, and that just won’t fly.
Above is the robot I was inspired to make after the Dude busted my balls about my robots having too many right angles and square edges. He’s all coloured now, and sporting a sweet staff of justice. Now he just needs a name and designation. I’ve got nothing, so I’m taking suggestions.
Think I will put some IASIP on and see if I can fall back asleep for an hour or so now that my metal play list seems to have ended. You failed at making me sleepy blog. Thanks for trying though.
Monday I went and helped the Dude do some work at his buddy’s house. It wasn’t a tough job, but it was a pain in the ass because we were on our backs the entire time, under a 24″ crawl space. It took us about 6 hours, but it looked pretty decent when we were done.
Yesterday I woke up and my back and knee were killing me. I hurt my knee last year, about this time, and it feels like I woke a sleeping giant somehow while crawling around on the pavement. Going up and down Holly’s stairs is brutal. Sitting in my chair at my desk is also brutal. I didn’t do much of that yesterday, nor do I plan to today.
I did spend some time at the desk with the Dude yesterday, making some changes to his winery model with him. Then he left and asked me to fix some geometry in another model he made, which is also part of the winery (the lab). I took a look at his model to see where he’d gone wrong, and I saw a few things I’ve been guilty of doing more than once. Nothing too major, but I decided hunting down the problems and solving them was more time consuming than redoing the entire model. It took less than an hour to recreate it, “improve” it, and put it in place to find out it was too large in two directions, and although it didn’t take much work, it was all for nothing.
The Dude came back late last night, and I showed him what was happening. His origilnal model is on the left, mine the right. In this view, you really can’t tell there is anything wrong with the Dude’s model, but mine certainly looks “neater”. The Dude decided to start over, but I’m not sure if he meant the entire model, or just the lab, or what.
Holly got home just as he left, and we had almost 4 entire sentences of dialogue before she passed out. I watched some UFC ultimate knockouts, then tried to sleep. It wasn’t happening so I threw on Idiocracy until my laptop started to get white hot. I finally fell asleep around 1:30. I woke up this morning feeling like shit. My back is killing me, nnd so is my knee. I should force myself to get my last drawings finished, but at this point I don’t think I can sit in that chair long enough to finish a single drawing.
I did manage to finally remember to transfer some images of a ninja robot I made a few days ago. He’s not as cool looking as I’d hoped, but I dig his sword and tribute logo. I’m calling him Gary the Gear driven Gaijin. I should have put some blood dripping off the tip of his blade. Oh well.
The new cat loves Hu-Man food. Everything I eat, she wants. She even steals sips of whatever I’m drinking. My old cats were all huge food mooches, so I figured all cats were the same. My brother’s cat doesn’t eat Hu-Man food (except Doritos I think), and neither of Holly’s cats seem to care at all. Maybe it’s just something with torties/calicoes, but whatever it is, this cat has it bad. She’s so fucking cute though, I don’t mind sharing my stuff with her.
