Last night Holly and I picked up the Dude and went to go see the Klopeks/Matadors show in Burlington. When we got there I threw four loonies in a Buck Hunter machine (the original!) so the three of us and Hooch, could play a quick round. The gun calibration was off, and the reload was finiky, so we played maybe one board each before giving up. It was also time for the Klopeks to come on, so I just set the gun down and watched Josh make fun of Burlington and the kid who’s birthday party they were playing at (who wasn’t even there at that time). Holly finished off all our credits by holding the gun against the screen, but the gun was so bad she could still barely hit anything.
The Klopeks only played for about 25 minutes, then they all bolted out the side door. The bar had UFC 105 on, so I pulled up a chair and watched Couture/Vera while some old drunk dude tried to talk fighting with me. The fight went the distance, and I was worried Couture was going to lose the decision, but he actually won unanimously. I love Randy Couture.
The next band came on, and although they didn’t sound too terrible, the rockabilly slut they had singing was gross. Her dress was too tight, and her body was very curvy in a lot of ways (none of them good). The Dude was getting bored, and asked if I wanted to join him outside for a smoke. While outside we talked about leaving, then decided to stick around. We walked back in, and five minutes later walked out and got in the car. We dropped the Dude off, and he lent me Brain Candy – which Holly has never seen (wtf!) – after showing me his latest adjustments to his winery model. We came back and threw it on, and I think Holly lasted maybe 25 minutes, and me almost an hour. Luckily for me, I look forward to sitting through it again.
Above is a robot I began this morning while attempting to let Holly sleep in. As per the Dude’s request, he’s got some round bits. The Dude likes his robots round. I have to do lots to him, but I was working on him on my laptop and didn’t feel like pushing my luck with it’s stability. I’ll transfer it to the other machine and then it’s going to get lots of detail. And some colour. My laptop sucks now.
My computer is behaving badly again, so I’ll make this brief. I didn’t end up going to help the Dude today. He was running late, then eventually when he did call to see if I was still up for it, I bailed in order to get all the corrections James sent me back finished. I got that done, and sent back to him. Looks like after I finish I’m going to have to learn In Design, and begin trying to layout the first book. Hopefully it’s not too hard.
Here are some random cat photos from the last week. Tomorrow morning I’m taking Roan and his friend to the Humane Society to play with cats, after breakfast with Holly and Margie. Then it’s off to Burlington tomorrow night for Klopeks/Matadors at the Red Rooster. Should be great times.
Also, while talking to Jon tonight about my impending computer death, he mentioned showing my blog to his friends at work, and how they suggested I check out sites like Zazzle and consider making robot t-shirts – no, not t-shirts for robots, that would be amazing… hu-man t-shirts, with robots on them. I was in the middle of checking it out when my machine crashed for the 7th time today. I’ll have to check it out more on Gage’s laptop tomorrow. It would be sweet to make a little money off a hobby.
Now it’s time to watch UFC and smoke a bedtime snack, before my computer dies again.
The Dude came by around noon today, and brought along a model he’s been working on for a little bit now. It’s a winery he’s designed, and upon my recommendation, he took up Sketchup and is working it all out in 3d. This is only the top floor. I helped him with the main floor last week. It had some tricky, intersecting archways that required the knowledge of “groups” and “intersecting” functions. It’s easy stuff once you understand how the functions work, but figuring out the idiosyncrasies involved with those functions can be a pain in the ass. I showed him how I’d do it, and he figured it out from there.
Today I showed him a few more tricks, but mostly just did a bunch of stuff that he figured would have taken him hours, but because I am more familiar with the program, and know how to work quick with it, I was able to do it in 20 minutes or so. I have fun showing people stuff in Sketchup. That makes me think I would really enjoy teaching. Especially teaching at the ISBA, because I’d not only get to teach Sketchup, but to some degree timber and log building as well.
I finally heard back from James, and I have a long list of corrections to be made. Hopefully they don’t take too long. I did manage to get my dreaded drawing done today, and emailed the first draft off this evening. Still waiting to hear about that one. If it’s fine, then I’ve only got about 15 more drawings to tweak, and I’m done.
Tomorrow I’m supposed to go help the Dude for a few hours, putting up some sheathing at his friends place. I was looking forward to it, but then I remembered the boys are home tomorrow (P.D. day) and I’m supposed to watch them. Now I have to take Roan with me, or figure something else out. I’m hoping the Dude is well prepared and it doesn’t take too long. DUDE, IF YOU’RE READING THIS, PLEASE BE PREPARED, AND DON’T SPEND ALL DAY CHATTING ON THE PHONE!!!
…also, we need to stop for blunt wraps in the morning.
I messed around with Sketchup for a bit last night, while Holly napped and we waited for America’s Next Top Model to start. I put the finishing touches on Secret Agent Bitler, and took a couple screen shots. He’s got a poppy for Remembrance day, a smoking gun, and a briefcase full of porno. I think my next robot will be a ninja. Today however, I need to work on book drawings.
I’m dreading the drawing I have to start today, but it’s the last one, so I need to just get it done. I still haven’t heard back from James since sending the last large batch of final drafts, so hopefully when I do, there isn’t a ton of corrections to be made. I’d like to get another paycheque sometimes soon. Maybe I’d even be able to buy people xmas gifts.
Shortly after posting on here this morning my brother called to see if I was coming by or not. He apparently missed my calls and didn’t see my messages, so he offered to come pick me up. We played Halo until about 3pm. then he took me to the funeral home. Holly and I went and got Roan, then took some pee pads she got from the funeral home to the Humane Society.
There was tons of cute kittens there, and lots of older, lovable cats. Holly fell in love with one we saw on their website the other day, and almost adopted it. She was super friendly and cuddled right up to Roan – something he always wants Tabbouleh and the others to do, but doesn’t have much luck with. She asked a girl who worked there what the cats name was, and she said Scarlet. She also said she’s off to get spayed tomorrow, then is going home with her new Hu-mans. There was also another calico that looked a lot like Tabbouleh, except much smaller. I wish I could have a thousand kitties.
We came back to make dinner and Gage’s friend was inside destroying the bathroom. He plugged the toilet and stunk up the entire house. It was brutal. Holly decided she wasn’t up for cooking, so we embarked on a mission to the Flying Saucer. That’s it up top, and in my mind, it’s a Niagara Falls icon. Whenever I tell people I live near (or currently IN) the Falls, they ask if it’s cool. I usually mention the falls them self, the gorge, the casino, and the Saucer. It’s the ONLY place to go for shitty food at 3am in the city. My favourite thing to get there is cheddar cheese balls. I could eat a thousand of them. I had those, grilled cheese, and a milk shake. The milk shake and balls were great, the rest was sub par – which is actually incredible for the Saucer!
They finally got their own printed place mats after like 40 years of business. Up until now it was those generic mixed drink mats every dive has. The new ones featured pictures of the food (bad idea?) and the above attempt at humor. I personally think this over weight, hairy earthling would taste better than anything they currently have on the menu (except the cheese balls of course!).
After dinner we came back for Top Model and Ultimate Fighter. I totally picked the final two, and I guarantee you Nicole wins it all. On Wednesday nights, I am now one of those people I hate. It’s actually not so bad.
Yesterday I got a bunch of work done on the final drafts of the bent drawings, then sent an email to James last night with about 25 more finished final drafts. I have up to Fig 37. finished so far, but realized last night while sending emails, I missed Fig 38. completely! I thought for sure I lost or deleted it, then I remembered it was a drawing that James’ original was a huge bizarre shape, because it was two drawings merged together old school like (pre-Photoshop) with tape and creative folding. Because of that, it had two different perspectives and made it look wonky. At some point I made a decision to leave it until the end, then completely forgot about it.
Today I was supposed to go play Halo and other games with my brother, but I’m thinking he’s busy or sleeping, and I missed my ride with Holly this morning. So, instead of pwn’n noobz for Remembrance Day, I think I’ll smoke some weed and see about doing some work. I’m not really feeling like starting to work yet, so maybe I’ll model a robot with a poppy.
I began a new robot last night while Holly was at the dentist with Roan – who gets fillings at 6:30pm?. It started out looking like Hitler, but at some point began looking more like James Bond. I think when he’s done I’ll name him Secret Agent Bitler.
Above is Blingbot, now with his bling and pinstripes. I need to either stop making robots, or figure out something to do with them. I was thinking painting them and trying to sell them, but I don’t know if I can pull it off, or if anyone would even buy them. I was thinking I could create a comic with all of them, but I have a feeling that will take a ton of time. Although it would be fun I’m sure.
My new kitty loves me now!
Holly and I were talking about names for her, and I think we’ve decided on Tabbouleh. It’s fun to say, and so good to eat. Holly came up with it after suggesting Baba Ganoush, but I like Tabbouleh so much more (the food and the name). She’s getting much more comfortable every day, and even likes to sleep on the bed with me sometimes.
Oliver has the life now. He’s got us petting the pants off him, Tabbouleh following him around like a shadow, and Nika wanting her cuddle time.
He’s gotta be one happy kitty. Although I think he’d be happier with just one more girlfriend. Or maybe two.
Saturday night was Paul and Jess’ stag and doe, and aside from a little drama at the end of the night, it was a great time. I saw lots of people I rarely get to hang out with, and some I rarely want to.
Paul and I.
Josh and I.
Hooch, Holly, Hoover.
Lesley and I.
Jodi, Margie, Chris and I.
We won some prizes and got a little drunk. I had a great time seeing everyone, and of course the Matadors and Monsters of Schlock were great as always. I had some deep conversations about cats and pot with the creator of Kitty Rancher, and saw a girl who was almost the same height as me. I also learned that either I’m 10cm taller than my brother, or one of our licences is fucked up.
I have a beard!
After working on a bunch of drawings yesterday I began making a new robot. I call him Blingbot, and he’s currently in a partially finished state. He’s needs more bling, and I might lose the suspenders – I’m not sure I like them.
Holly comes home today, then we have Gage’s soccer game this evening. Tomorrow morning she has a Lasik consultation, then the rest of the day off. On Saturday, we’re off to Toronto for my friend Michelle’s birthday party (which reminds me, I need to find my roller blades since I doubt they will have size 14 skates at the roller rink), then we’re coming back to the Falls for Paul and Jess’ stag and doe.
If you love the Matadors and/or Monsters of Schlock, you should come out to Falls View Hose Brigade – 5786 Dunn Street, Niagara Falls, Ontario – on Saturday night. It starts at 7pm, and should be great times. It’s only $5 and I’ll be there with my new beard.
